The overarching theme of this speech — two verses reflecting the two historic challenges of persecution and freedom, Jews have faced throughout history — is based on the Rebbe’s last ma’amar Ve’atah tetzaveh. In the ma’amar the Rebbe writes of the miraculous times in which we currently live, on the verge of Geulah. Our final challenge, the Rebbe says, is to live a proud Jewish life in the midst of freedom and affluence. In this sweeping speech (my personal favorite of this year) I’ve tried to communicate this message in a way that speaks to and moves the heart of even the most secular Jew.
